Welcome to the first annual Emerging Voices Poetry Contest sponsored by Poet Joi Publications. This nationally based contest encourages new writers to create original work that explores contemporary subject matter, free verse, and experimental devices. First prize is $250, a one-year feature on www.PoetJoiPublications.com, online publication of the winning poem, and an announcement in our August 2009 newsletter.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to qualify for this contest. However, we will consider entries submitted by applicants who turn 18 on or before June 30, 2009.
Submission Period
Entries accepted September 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 (postmark dates). Winners announced August 1, 2009
Content
Applicants must submit original, unpublished work for consideration. While applicants may submit the same poem simultaneously to this and outside contests, poets may not submit poems that have already been distinguished by other awards and/or prizes.
Eligible work explores contemporary topics, free verse, experimental devices, and/or thematic elements, and may include up to six individual submissions.
Language
All submissions must be in English. Applicants may submit poems written in another language provided English translations accompany these works.
